IELTS is an English language exam that is required to be taken by international candidates considering studying or working in a country where English is the main language of communication. The full form of IELTS is an International English Language Testing System. Most popular countries where IELTS is accepted for university admissions are UK, Australia, New Zealand, US, Canada.

The GRE® (Graduate Record Exam) Test is the standardised test used to fetch admissions in various graduate schools or business graduate schools in various countries, especially the United States. More than 100,000 graduate school applicants from approximately 160 countries take the GRE General Test at 700 test centres.

The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is a computer adaptive test intended to assess certain analytical, writing, quantit-ative, verbal, and reading skills in written English for use in admission to a management program, such as an MBA. More than 7,000 programs at approximately 2,300 graduate business schools around the world accept the GMAT as part of the selection criteria for their programs.

TOEFL is the most popular English proficiency exam accepted at North American universities. The full form of TOEFL is Test of English as Foreign Language. TOEFL tests the international students’ usage and understanding of North American English as it is spoken, written and heard in college and university settings.

The American College Testing (ACT) is standardised test that admission officers at US colleges use to compare undergraduate applicants and ascertain their college readiness. The ACT comprises four subject areas – English, Math, Reading, and Science. The ACT with Writing includes an additional 40-minute Writing test.

There are many things that distinguish PTE Academic from its close competitors – IELTS and TOEFL. The full form of PTE is Pearson Test of English. The three-hour long computer-based test focusses on day to day English rather than high-level English language and tests a student on his/her ability to effiectively understand the language as spoken daily. The multi-level grading system ensures a better understanding of the student’s proficiency in the English language.
